At Sign for Work, our team works closely with deaf and hard of hearing jobseekers and employees every day. Many people come to us with questions about finding a job, improving their resume, and understanding what employment support is available.
Our team brings knowledge, experience, and practical support to each person we work with. We believe in being approachable, honest, and working alongside our clients to help them achieve their employment goals.
Recently, we asked our Sign for Work team in South Australia about the questions they hear most often from their clients. These are some of the most common questions they receive from deaf jobseekers and employees.
How can I get my resume to stand out?
Layout is important. Your resume should have clear information and everything should be correct. Use the same font and a uniform size throughout.
Most importantly, you should know your resume back to front. It is best to keep it personal and individual to you.
A strong resume should clearly show your skills, experience, and the type of work you are interested in.
What can you do for me?
I can advocate for you. I will call and follow up on applications you are waiting on.
I will collaborate with my team on what roles are available and which companies are hiring in your chosen field.
I will support you every step of the way.
At Sign for Work, we work alongside deaf and hard of hearing jobseekers to help open doors and connect people with meaningful employment opportunities.
What support do you offer for clearances and checks?
Sometimes job applications require checks or clearances. Our team will always try to explore what support may be possible and help guide you through the process where we can.
What will you be able to help me with in this program?
This program has been created to support you with overcoming your barriers and assisting with finding suitable employment for deaf and hard of hearing people.
If needed, we can also support you with arranging allied health appointments or referrals.
Our goal is to help people build confidence, develop skills, and move toward sustainable employment.
What job are you going to be able to find me?
We will help you find a role that you are interested in and have the qualifications for.
We will also make sure the type of role you apply for will not affect the barriers you face.
At Sign for Work, we focus on helping people find suitable employment, not just any job.
