What We Wish Every Jobseeker Knew

Our Employment Coaches work closely with deaf and hard of hearing jobseekers every day. In those conversations, we often hear the same concerns, especially when people are starting a new job or thinking about a change.

We asked our Victorian team one simple question:

What is one thing you wish every deaf or hard of hearing jobseeker knew?

Here’s what they shared.

You’re Not Alone in This

Dani, Employment Coach

“You’re not alone, there is people here to support and advocate for you, to not only find work but to maintain employment”

Your Goals Are Still Within Reach

Paul, Employment Coach

“As someone with cochlear implant, helping people find work, I wish people knew that being deaf or hard of hearing doesn’t mean you can’t achieve your goals”

The Right Support Can Make a Difference

Miranda, Employment Coach

“I wish jobseekers knew that they can achieve their career goals with the right support and here at Sign for Work we can provide tailored support to your needs”

You Are More Than Your Hearing Loss

Sarah, Hub Manager

“Your hearing loss doesn’t define you, your skills, work ethic, and perspective are what truly make you valuable, we’re here to help you showcase exactly that”

Support at Work Is Your Right

Sally, Claims Supervisor

“All Customers in work are entitled to EAF (Employment Assistance Fund) that can assist you with workplace modifications and additional workplace support.”

The Right Workplace Does Exist

Vanessa, Employment Coach

“If you’re feeling unmotivated because you’ve never truly been supported before, the right workplace will collaborate with you, value your needs, and create space for you to thrive. That kind of environment does exist. Your hearing loss does not define you, and meaningful, supportive employment is absolutely possible.”
